How do you measure your success as a leader? What metrics serve to correctly and completely evaluate a leader’s strategic accomplishments, tactical decision-making, impact on clients, customers, or members, and stewardship of resources, staff, and organization? The annual review by a Board? Substantial numerical growth in some deemed-important metrics? The regular praise of your people? The financial health of the organization?
Ultimately, for a ministry leader, the single measure of success must be whether we hear the words, “Well done, good, faithful servant,” spoken by our one and only Master. With that perspective in mind, it then becomes possible to identify the right measures of our labors. There are just a few aspects of our lives and ministries by which we should judge ourselves, they are the same measures by which God will judge us. God does not expect perfection from us in these areas, but He does desire to see us undergo consistent growth. As we journey through our life-long trek, and He writes the story of our life and ministry, are we being faithfully obedient to incrementally transform ourselves into the image of His Son.

At ASCENT Shepherding, we believe people are more than the sum of their DNA and early-life socialization. We are the high creation of God, made in His image, redeemed by His Son, guided by His Spirit; His children, a new creation, able to transform and grow into full spiritual adulthood, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Our life-long growth is multi-dimensional, involving the entire person: body, soul, and spirit. This includes our thoughts, intents, attitudes, passions, emotions, personality, character, life experiences, giftedness, learning, skills, roles, and relationships. At any given time, God desires us to be growing in one, or two, or at most three of these areas.
Our desire at ASCENT is to make a difference in the lives of our clients by helping them understand their “edges of growth” and providing practical biblical resources to help them advance forward and be transformed. ASCENT utilizes focused, easy-to-use resources to help a leader as they transform into Christlikeness in the course of their life-long journey.
